According to DisplaySearch, a market research firm, Apple’s laptop shipments have grown from 900,000 in Q1 2007 up to 1.4M in Q1 2008. The 61% increase now places Apple seventh in the laptop market with a 4.6% share.

Based on “popular demand,” Dell has extended the Windows XP deadline to June 26th. Previously, Dell was charging a ’surcharge’ for downgrading to Windows XP, at the encouragement of Microsoft. Today, a Dell representative confirmed that customers can order select configurations of the Inspiron 530 or 530s desktops with Windows XP Home through June 26.

According to Dell’s in-house blog, the company will soon offer a new mini ultraportable laptop. The mini UMPC’s typically sport a 7 to 8.9-inch display screen vs. the 11 to 12-inch screens found on standard ultraportables.
