Upcoming MDR-EX headphones from Sony

MDR-EX Sony Headphones

MDR-EX Sony Headphones

Just yesterday we broke the news of Sony’s new E-Series MP3 players. We noted our lack of excitement, but we also noted that we felt they were aimed at a younger or more female audience. Well, to round things off nicely, Sony appears to have announced the accompanying set of headphones, the MDR-EX.

The jewelery-esque looking buds actually pack a decent punch offering up 9mm neodymium drivers, adequate frequency response of 6-23,000Hz, and a maximum input of 100mW. Bundlled with the earphones is a mobile adaptor, which isn’t surprising since most of their own phones do not offer 3.5mm headphones jacks. After all, Sony are King of Proprietary for a reason. The volume control on the headphones is well received, meaning you won’t need to drag your MP3 players out of your pocket to adjust the volume. Available by the end of the month in Japan, the headphones will not come cheap, which is surprising given their almost garish look, costing over £90 or $180.
