Watch out Nano, Sony’s E Series is coming to town
Back in the day when the Walkman was king, Sony was smiling and Apple was nowhere. How times have changed. As part of the on-going war between Apple and the rest of the world, when it comes to portable music, everyone wants to get in on the action, either to recover their market share or steal a piece of Apple’s (usually with a copy-cat). So maybe a combination of the two is expected from time to time, and this is akin to what we see with Sony’s ‘E Series’.
Aimed at the iPod Nano market, the ‘E Series’ appears to be particularly interested in girls with only a limited amount of cash to burn. The three new models, dubbed the NWZ-E435, NWZ-E436 and NWZ-E438 come in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB respectively. All pack a 2-in QVGA LCD, which is perfect for navigating your way through your MP3, WMA and AAC playback options. The battery life leaves something to be desired, however, offering up only 175 songs/11h 40m at 320kbps and 4h of video at 768kbps.
On the bright side, it won’t weigh a girl down, since at just 50g and only 8.5mm in depth, it will fit into even the snuggest of clutches. Things are made simple too, with a basic drag and drop file transfer function, and if you become tired of your own music, there is a built in FM receiver too.
Pricing and availability will be available on DigitalBurn soon. Watch this space.
