Panasonic recently announced new VIERA 1080p HD plasma TVs that the company claims will possibly outlast the owners. Based on the average daily TV intake from the U.S. (6.5 hours), the company has concluded that its new VIERA models should last 42 years on average.

The new 2008 lineup of the VIERA HD TVs brings 100,000 hours of viewing before reaching half of its original brightness. The company’s VIERA 720p hi-def televisions last up to 25 years with the same average daily views of 6.5 hours.

“There has been a lot of misinformation circulating about Plasma HDTVs and longevity, and we’re happy to once again set the record straight on the durability of Panasonic Plasma,” said Robert Perry, Senior Vice President, Panasonic Display Products Company.  “Quite simply, our Plasma TVs are built to last a very long time — as much as 100,000 hours to half their brightness.”

Panansonic’s VIERA lineup all offer new panels, increased contrast ratios and efficiency, SD memory card slots, HDMI connectivity, Game Mode, and VIERA link, which lets users pair up Panasonic components with one touch.
