Intel crack open Core i7, say byebye to Nehalem

Intel Core i7

Back in June, we broke the story that processor manufacturer Intel would be breaking out Nehalem before the year is up. However, we have been proven wrong, thank the heavens. No longer shall we confuse a small town with a population 203 in Oregon with the processor microarchitecture. The new official name is the Intel “Core i7”.

Keeping in line with the Core branding that they have built up over recent times, Intel are set to confuse the public with yet another processor whereby the benefits and differences are not immediately clear. The only thing we lay-folk have to go on, is 7 is an increase from the last Core number, 2. We are relying on the fact that people are not going to spend time looking for all the numbers in between. The Extreme Edition processors are branded with a black badge.

The on-board memory controller by Intel is set to offer up Hyper-Threading capable CPUs, and will be around before Christmas, so this seems like a good time to add the “Core i7 Extreme Edition” to the top of your wish-list.
