Upcoming Micro Four Thirds System from Olympus and Panasonic

Micro Four Thirds System

Micro Four Thirds System

Over in Japan, Olympus Imaging Corporation (Olympus Imaging) and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (Panasonic) have recently announced a brand-spanking new standard for interoperable lenses and camera bodies. The hit? It is likely we will see another camera category in the market sometime soon. Dubbed as ‘The Micro Four Thirds’ system, it is effectively a slimmer version of their previous ‘Four Thirds system’, and will allow the vendors to produce lenses and bodies that are digital-only that can be used together without modification or development of custom interfaces and tools.

The reason ‘The Micro Four Thirds’ system is appealing is primarily because it demands smaller bodies but continues to offer up interchangeable lenses. When it comes to cameras, this may help make the smaller fish such as Olympus and Panasonic provide affordable competition to Canon and Nikon in a (new) niche camera range. However, we will have to wait to see what products are offered-up with the birth of this new technology.
