Dell to enter MP3 arena with new player…again
Although they tried and seemingly failed in 2003, they’re at it again with rumors of a new MP3 player hitting the market as early as September. As reported by The Wall Street Journal, the company is looking to branch out from computers and enter a more general consumer electronics market. During Dell’s first run with an MP3 player, the company’s market share never rose above three percent - a potential worry for the company during the second attempt.
It is widely assumed that Dell’s new music service will have a subscription-based download service attached with it. Only time will tell as to the success of the MP3 player and whether it will effectively compete with the iPod or not.
