Sony Ericsson gets friendly with Zeemote
According to Sony Ericsson, there is stock in the mobile gaming market, providing you have a mobile device to play with. Unfortunately, the mobile device Sony Ericsson has decided to team up with is nearly as big as the phone it will be partnered with. Zeemote’s ‘JS1′ Bluetooth games controller is not exactly the smallest accessory known to man, but we should still expect to see it come bundled with the upcoming W760i Walkman.
Sony Ericsson is using Holland (NL) as the testing grounds, and should it prove successful over there, it will get rolled out to the rest of the world. However, we doubt very much that people will have deep enough pockets to store all the necessary parts to make this relationship work. Despite our scepticism, here is what Jim Adams, VP of Worldwide Sales at Zeemote, had to say on the matter:
“Mobile gaming will never be the same as the Zeemote JS1 launches through our first commercial relationship with Sony Ericsson. We are delighted to partner with Sony Ericsson and give users even more of a reason to buy the feature packed W760i. This agreement is the first of a number of deals we intend to announce over the coming months.”
We’re a little worried about the deals Adam is talking about here. As long as they do not require us to carry more hardware around with us, we might be interested. Otherwise, we’ll pass. We much prefer what iPhone have done with Super Monkey Ball and the accelerometer, and there are no iPhone fan boys over here. It just makes sense. Mobile gaming should be easy and not something you have to think about packing when you leave your house in the morning. Clearly, Sony Ericsson is stumbling through harder times that we first thought…
