Upcoming LG 47LG90 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio TV revealed
Million to one contrast ratio TVs are the new buzz-target for display manufacturers. Samsung has already announced their intentions to have one out pretty soon, but LG has decided to get in on a bit of that premier action and steal-up some of the limelight. Although it is not the official word on the matter, LG have leaked details on their own backlit TV which sports a (dynamic) 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio.
The new LG TV will be able to use ambient light to help guide how it will automatically adjust its display settings. Although it isn’t going to be the thinnest TV, since the 5in thick casing that it sits in is fairly bulky, the dynamic contrast ratio claimed by LG should be enough to make up for that. For the 47LG90 specifications list, please read on.
- 47in, 1,920 x 1,080 panel
- 120Hz processing (100Hz in any forthcoming UK model)
- three HDMI 1.3 ports, two Component inputs, one S-Video in and a D-Sub connector
- 24fps playback
- USB port for JPEG and MP3 playback
Interestingly, the new LG set and the Samsung set previously announced will be similar in style and looks, with colouring around the edge of the display available on both. In terms of costs, Samsung have it covered, since the LG (47LG90) carries an MSRP of $3,599 (~£1,800) while the comparable in size 50in Samsung will be roughly $2,899 (£1,450).
