Upcoming Apple rumors round-up: iPod Touch & Nano

Apple to update product line?

Now we have one set of answers, namely with relation to the iPhone 3G, we cannot help ourselves but wonder about the next change in the Apple landscape.

The iPod Nano and iPhone Touch are both due a make-over, and the iPod Touch seems to be getting a firmware upgrade in the form of “iPod2.1″. In terms of hardware updates for the Touch, we might be lucky enough to see GPS or even a 64GB version? However, other than getting an RRP reduction, it is unlikely that we will see much more in the iPod Touch. After all, if it gets too feature-filled, it will have a higher likelihood of cannibalizing sales directly from the iPhone.

Moving onto the iPod Nano, according to iLounge’s ‘the reliable insider’, the new version will have a larger screen and an iPhone-esque widescreen. If true, this decision is likely to mean that the new iPod Nano will look slimmer and more similar to the old version, something many people will be happy to see.

Rounding up the news is the decision to go all plastic for the new iPhone 3G. A skim of the owner’s forum over at Apple’s Discussions reveals that there are a number of units that have developed hairline cracks. This seems somewhat familiar to the 1G Nanos and 5G iPods debate all those years ago. Either way, we will probably hear the definitive word sometime in September.
