UK’s Phones4U up to some shady iPhone business
A ‘high street’ phone retailer in the UK called Phones4U have announced their plan to offer a cash incentive to users who trade in their old iPhones and take on a P480 Tocco by Samsung (allegedly “”smaller, faster and better”). The company can be quoted in offering “up to £269 cash back” which is over $500. Obviously there are no adequate details offered as to what “up to” actually means, therefore not really allowing consumers to make an informed decision.
As a slightly shady company, although (probably) legally sound, Phones4U are notorious for offering, in our opinion, crazy money-back schemes. They rely on the fact that few consumers follow through with the right forms and/or phone-calls at the right time in order to be warranted their ‘money back’.
Furthermore, although the Samsung phone on offer is good, its not that good. It is certainly not worth idly swapping out an old iPhone for without some serious consideration. The screen on the Samsung is smaller, and although the 3G HSDPA is there, without a suitable browser it is virtually useless. The camera is better, but has some serious shutter lag. Furthermore, the touch-screen user-interface is a long way from Apple, and the onboard storage is a joke in comparison. Oh, no WiFi either. Obviously the full £269 looks great, but our guess is very few will actually be getting the full amount of money. If anyone tries this, please feel free to let us know how it goes!
