Sky announces plans for a new music website
Sky today announced its intent to launch a “ground breaking, easy, and affordable” new music service to allow UK and Irish customers the ability to download music online. For a monthly subscription, users can listen to streaming music and download tracks to listen to and “keep forever.” The company says that the music will work on any MP3-compatible device, suggesting that the songs will be DRM-free.
While the company is in talks with several of the media labels, Universal Music Group is the first of the big four labels to offer its participation in the service, offering access to many songs from Universal Music artists.
