Amazon.com to launch Amazon Video on Demand

acom_logo_rgbAccording to the New York Times, Amazon is set to launch a new streaming movie and TV store for online users called Amazon Video on Demand.

Different from its current service, Amazon Unbox, where users must wait for the download to appear on their hard drives, the new service will allow Amazon.com users to start watching over 40,000 movies and TV programs immediately after purchase, just like current competitors video-on-demand services.

The new Amazon Video on Demand service is expected to roll out in a trial basis to invited Amazon.com customers before it is launched publicly later this summer.  Seemingly Amazon has also partnered up with Sony to bring its video store direct to its Sony Bravia line of HD-TVs.
