Microsoft has announced a new partnership with online movie renter Netflix that will provide Xbox 360 owners the luxury of streaming movies direct to their gaming consoles.

The deal, announced yesterday, will let Netflix subscribers stream over 10,000 movies and TV shows directly to Xbox 360 consoles for instant playback on their televisions. Netflix currently offers a streaming device for its movie playback called Roku that runs about $99.

Xbox 360 owners must be signed up for the Microsoft’s Gold membership to receive these services, approximately $50 a year, as well as be a subscriber to Netflix, which runs about $9 per month for the cheapest pricing plan that allows unlimited streaming.

The new streaming service is expected to be available this fall.
