Upcoming Sony Z-Series Vaio notebook details leaked
Sony’s line of notebooks has been looking kind of dated as of late, and therefore this news should be welcomed with open arms among the notebook consumer market. Combined with the Intel Centrino 2 launching over the next few weeks, the Sony Z-Series machines will be cutting edge, but with an unspecified price tag to match. As a current SZ-Series user, I have been particularly happy with my Sony Vaio. The only issue after 1 year of daily use is the quality of the keyboard. The rest is spot on. So let’s find out what will be under the hood of the new Z-Series lineup.
Similar to the current SZ-Series, the Z-Series will use a 13.1” LED backlit screen. This is slightly smaller and is probably a hint to the 16:9 aspect ratio which will support a resolution of 1,366 x 768 or a 1,600 x 900 depending on your specific set-up. Just like the SZ-Series, the new Z-Series will include an optical drive and dual graphics, including standalone and Intel’s integrated. The ability to switch between them is designed to save power.
Identical to the SZ-Series, the Z-Series will have two USB 2.0 ports, an ExpressCard slot and a proprietary docking station connector (which will come at a price). The S-Series will upgrade the SZ-Series by including both HDMI and VGA outputs, something the SZ-Series should have had anyway.
The remaining specs are as follows:
- Intel Core 2 Duo processor
- Intel Centrino 2 platform
- 4GB DDR2 800MHz
- nVidia GeForce 9300M GS or GeForce 9600M GS and Intel integrated graphics (hybrid graphics chips.)
- 200GB or 320GB hard drive
- Draft-N Wireless
- Carbon chassis
- HSDPA (up to 7.2Mbit)
