One week ahead of launch, line begins to form at NYC Apple store
Although Friday marks the official launch of Apple’s 3G iPhone, the purchase line has already formed at the company’s flagship Fifth Avenue Store in New York City. As of Friday afternoon, approximately ten people were waiting outside of the location, complete with lawn chairs and overnight equipment. As of now, no plans are in place to put barricades outside of the store, and security will allow the customers to remain in their places.
The first customers in line are a man, woman, and young child. The couple is hoping to break a record in regards to standing in line. While inventory is expected to be at high levels, Apple and AT&T are expecting much longer lines, due to in-store activation requirements. The new in-store activations are designed to cut down on users purchasing the phones and unlocking them.
