New disk drive to match the human brain capacity by 2010
A few days back you will remember how we bought you the news that OCZ were slashing the cost of Solid State Drives (SSD) in the face of lowered production costs. Well, HDD manufacturer Hitachi responded in the only way they know how and have announced that by 2010 we will have 5TB models of the standard HDD, thus meeting speed with size head on.
Whether or not you chose to believe this claim is another story, however, since Dr Yoshihiro Shiroishi of Hitachi has also claimed that a pair of 5TB drives will “provide the same storage capacity as the human brain”. We asked a Computational Neuroscientist at a leading world university whether this was true, and they said “I doubt it”.
Now that’s final!
