Unboxed: Nokia’s E66 business smartphone slider

Nokia E66

It’s the king of unboxings, and we’re proud to bring live pictures of the VoIP capable Nokia E66 to you. The phone is quite amazing, and shows that Nokia is beginning to understand the concept of ‘fashionable phone,’ while retaining a business form factor and usability.

When we first picked it up, we noticed that, while very comfortable and solid, the phone was a bit heavy in the hand. The back of the device attracts quite a few fingerprints, so be sure to carry a cleaning cloth if it find prints bothersome. On the inside, we were quite impressed with the e-mail and web capabilities. When loading programs, apps, or screens, you can use the ‘mode switcher,’ which lets you configure business or personal themes for your enjoyment.

Among some other details we noticed, the device uses a new ‘Home’ key instead of the traditional S60 menu button; when in an application and the home key is pressed, it takes you to standby instead of the main menu. To ignore calls, a double tap or a flip of the handset can accomplish the task. Reception appeared to be on the weak side, however we plan a full review to gather more information on the subject.
