Firefox 3 breaks world record at 8 million downloads in 24 hours

Mozilla Firefox 3It’s official - Mozilla has been given the record for the most software downloads in a 24 hour period for its Firefox 3 web browser by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Coming in a tad over 8 million, 8,002,530 to be exact, the company will now receive a certificate of honor stating they are the world champ.

Paul Kim, Mozilla’s Marketing head, told the BBC, “The notion of going for a world record, as… nutty as it may have sounded, was a really sticky idea.  It was an idea that translated really well across national borders and to all different kinds of people around the world.”

Mozilla servers, at their busiest moments, were handling more than 9,000 downloads per minute.
