Apple quietly reduces MacBook Air pricing by $500
As we reported on earlier, the price of flash memory and solid state drives (SSDs) is steadily declining and with that drop in hardware costs comes a drop in the price of Apple’s MacBook Air notebooks. Apple is now selling its 1.8GHz model with a 64GB SSD for $2598, down from $3098 less than a week ago.
The $500 cut is due to the cost of the SSD upgrade dropping from $1000 to $600 and the price of the upgrade to the 1.8GHz processor (from the 1.6GHz standard CPU) going down from $300 to $200.
If you are willing to forgo the faster processor, you can get an SSD equipped MacBook Air for $2398.
