Get a CDMA boost with Airave’s signal booster for Sprint

Sprint’s Airave

Sprint may finally introduce its signal boosting Airave to the rest of the country. Originally only available for customers in select areas around Denver and Indianapolis, the portable base station looks as though it may go countrywide this month.

The Airave, which uses broadband data to carry mobile calls over the Internet,  requires a broadband connection (cable or DSL modem) and AC power to create a mini cell tower to extend Sprint’s network in areas where mobile hone coverage is poor such as a house or office.

The good news is the portable femtocell booster will work with any handset using Sprint’s services and the bad news is the Airave will only work with up to three phones simultaneously and will not work with Nextel devices.

The Airave is expected to be available mid-July for US$99 and will require a monthly plan, which has not been disclosed at this time.
