eBay ordered to pay £30 million for Louis Vuitton fakes

eBay logoeBay has been ordered to pay 38.6 million euros to LVMH (Louis Vuitton’s parent company) for allowing customers to bid on and purchase fake products online.  According to LVMH, 90% of the LVMH goods for sale on eBay were fake in 2006. The company had originally asked for 50 million euros, as they didn’t believe that eBay’s French team did enough to stop the fraud.

To make matters worse, eBay was ordered to pay 3.25 million euros to Christian Dior, Kenzo, Givenchy and Guerlain for unauthorized sales as well.  It is expected that eBay will appeal the charges.
