Apple notebooks sales jump up 61% in 2008

mac_bookAccording to DisplaySearch, a market research firm, Apple’s laptop shipments have grown from 900,000 in Q1 2007 up to 1.4M in Q1 2008. The 61% increase now places Apple seventh in the laptop market with a 4.6% share.

HP leads the market with a 20.8% share, followed by Dell at 15.1% and a closely trailing Acer in third, which controls 14.6% of the market. Toshiba (9.3%), Lenovo (7.5%), and Fujitsu-Siemens (5.2%), are slightly ahead of Apple with Asus (4.3%) and Sony (4.2%) trailing close behind Apple’s 4.6% share.

The DisplaySearch report showed that most of the companies listed saw significant growth and that there is a growing market trend for sub-notebooks.
