Pioneer BDP-LX91

The new range of Pioneer Blu-Ray players announced in March for the United States was only a glimpse of what is yet to come from Pioneer. They are now kitting up four Blu-Ray players for a European launch. Things start in September with the LX71. The LX08 will land in October along with the 51FD, and rounding up the show is the LX91, coming in the ‘winter’. Only the latter will provide BD Live (Blu-Ray profile 2.0), and will therefore be considerably more expensive.

As we have come to expect from the latest Pioneer Blu-Ray players, they will offer the full 1080p playback necessary for true-HD viewing. Accompanying this is the 24fps True Cinema content which enables viewers to experience the exact same visuals as those that created and mastered the discs in the studio. Basically, 1080p using 24fps is the ideal way to view a Blu-Ray, and the way the masters intended us to do so!

And let us not forget the rest: with numerous 12-bit HDMI outputs that can provide Deep Colour support, the audio side of things may seem to get a little bit sidelined. Not the case! The Wolfson DACs provide supreme playback of both DTS HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD.

If you are a Kuro admirer like me, you will be pleased to know Pioneer offer special features on all of these Blu-Ray players when coupled with the Pioneer Kuro Plasmas. The players will automatically alter their output settings to create the best performance possible based on the Kuro Plasma set you are using. This ‘Kuro Mode’ also allows some of the players to be controlled by a universal Pinoeer remote that you use for the TV itself!
