T-Mobile prepping Shadow II as first Windows Mobile UMA phone
Evidence has surfaced that T-Mobile USA’s successor to the Shadow, the Shadow II, will become the company’s first UMA smartphone. The Shadow II is expected to run on the Windows Mobile platform and also support T-Mobile’s Hotspot @Home. Using WiFi, the handset is then able to use an existing network for connectivity as an alternative to the GSM/EDGE cellular network T-Mobile USA uses.
The purported Shadow II is built by HTC and sports a slider form factor that runs on Windows Mobile 6.1. The device also is expected to include a SureType keypad and a 2 megapixel camera. Rumors indicate that the UMA-enabled Shadow II will not be available until Q4 of this year, though.
