In a recent spate of announcements by Sony, it has now become clear that the console gurus are planning on stepping up their act. The notion of the PlayStation 3 as a home entertainment system was fairly weak to many, with a hard to organize filing system, no bundled one handed ‘TV’ style remote, and an inability to download full length feature films. Well, at least the latter point has now been addressed.

In an update to their Corporate Strategy, Sony Group has announced that it will be making full length feature films available for download over the Internet (a.k.a. PlayStation Network) to the PS3 console directly. Furthermore, According to their own PDF released on this matter, they will be releasing Hancock to Internet enabled Bravia TVs before the film is even published to DVD! This has never been done before so only believe it when you see it, but do keep in mind Sony have a good history of clean and honest public announcements.

The rest of the world is not specifically mentioned in the report, but America certainly has something to look forward to. Is there still a place for BlockBusters, or will everything that can be digital, go digital? Feel free to let us know.
