Prior to Verizon merger, Alltel tried to buy Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T
The announcement concerning Verizon buying Alltel is quite obvious by now, but few knew that Alltel attempted to purchase Sprint three times, as well as T-Mobile and AT&T before going private. During a recent interview with CEO Scott Ford, Talk Business host Roby Brock discussed Alltel prior to going private
Scott Ford continued by saying that during the merger talks with the aforementioned companies, “some of those times it went with partners, [while] some of those times it didn’t.” His primary reason for looking into other carriers was to improve profits: “long term, you’ve got to be a national player or you’re going to get not only suboptimal returns, you’re going to get in some instances negative returns.”
