Go clean your room! - with Readybot’s home cleaning robot

The Readybot Prototype

The Readybot Prototype

A non-profit research group issued what they are calling The Readybot Robot Challenge and one of the first prototypes out of research shelves will clean a room filled with toys and even deploy a vacuum robot to do the smaller tasks needed. Looking similar to “a dishwasher with arms”, the Readybot scoots along scraping toys into bins, placing the bins onto shelves, and even will go as far as emptying the trash.

Tom Benson, the ReadyBot director says, “we believe the next and largest wave of the robotics industry will be similar to personal computers. With PCs, the disk drives, motherboards, and other components are made by different vendors and assembled into an easy-to-upgrade final product. This approach has led to fast growth and innovation in the PC market. We believe robots will be the same – robot arms, bases, video systems could be made by different vendors and plugged together. So it makes perfect sense to use an existing vacuum robot as a peripheral.”

Readybot is expected to launch its second phase of the Readybot Challenge in the fall.
