Alltel to launch EVDO Rev. A within six months

Alltel logoHow this will work with the pending Verizon Wireless/Alltel merger isn’t clear as of yet; however Alltel Wireless today announced its intent to upgrade 18 of it’s wireless markets to EVDO Rev. A within the next six months.  Little Rock, Charlotte, New Orleans, Phoenix and Tampa are a few of the markets being upgraded to the new technology.  Alltel’s Rev. A technology has download speeds as fast as 3.1 Mbps and upload speeds of 1.8 Mbps; their EVDO service covers approximately 75% of their customers.

“Rev. A is the next step in Alltel’s commitment to provide our customers with the fast wireless broadband service they have come to expect in their business and personal lives,” said Jeff Fox, chief operating officer of Alltel Wireless. “As our customers’ needs continue to grow, Alltel’s network is well-positioned to deliver higher speeds and greater capacity for years to come.”

We’d imagine that, should the buyout be successful, the correct words would be “…months to come.”
