Even with ‘allergies,’ city continues buildout of WiFi hotspots

wifiRemember last month, when Santa Fe, NM was planning to introduce WiFi in many of the public buildings? To jog your memory, there was a group of individuals claiming that the act constituted discrimination based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  According to them, they suffered from an alleged sensitivity to electromagnetic radio frequency emissions.

Sound foolish?  The Santa Fe city council thinks so too.  In a recent vote, the council voted unanimously to continue the buildout of the project, and rejected a motion to exclude city hall. Arthur Firstenberg, leader of the “allergy” group, calls the decisions both a “disaster” and also invites “a lawsuit.”

Considering the number of WiFi hotspots in today’s world, I’m not quite sure how he conducts his business without sneezing all the time.
