Firefox 3 download count hits 10 million

FirefoxSince its release, the popular internet browser has hit 10,954,477 downloads.  More importantly, however, is the number achieved during Mozilla’s “download day” that may be hitting the Guinness World record. According to its website, Mozilla had eight million downloads in 24 hours; now, the company is waiting for a response from Guinness concerning the validity of the record.

The nation with the most downloads was (no surprise) the United States, with 3,288,217 downloads.  The UK came in second at 393,211 downloads, followed by China with 228,370 downloads.  At the busiest download point, the browser was being downloaded 9,000 times. Additionally, it only took five hours for version 3.0 to reach the 1.6 million set by version 2.0 in 2006.

One small glitch at this time, however: DV Labs/Tipping Point reported a flaw that potentially lets an attacker take over a PC if a user clicks on a booby-trapped link.
