FCC details ETF regulation proposal

Small FCC Logo 2Following comments last week on the potential changes to early termination fee policies, FCC Chairman Kevin Martin detailed exactly what the FCC had in mind last week at a public hearing. As he’s mentioned before, he would like for all ETF’s to be prorated, and would like for customers to analyze their first bill before they’re locked into a service.

He also discussed the issue of ETF’s in regards to the actual phone cost. While the idea sounds good on paper, we would imagine it would be challenging to enforce, as each customer would have a different ETF fee, and the explanation required would be hard for the customer to understand. While the FCC hasn’t yet forced carriers into specific ETF policies, their powerful voice rings loud and clear.
