AMD breaks the Teraflop barrier with new FireStream 9250
AMD announced that its new next-gen stream processor, FireStream 9250, breaks the one teraflop barrier. Announced in Germany at a Supercomputing conference, AMD claims the new Firestream 9250 fits into a single PCI slot, consumes less than 150 watts of power, and uses a second generation double precision floating point unit for delivery. It offers users super-computer power for intensive applications (like earthquake data analysis) in a package that can be installed in a regular PC.
The new AMD FireStream 9250 should be available in Q3 of this year for US$999.
