Google changes look with new favicon browser icon
Some of you may have noticed that Google has changed its favicon from a large “G” to a small, lower case ‘g’ recently. If you haven’t noticed just take a look up in the URL portion of your web browser. For those that need a definition of a favicon, it is a small image that is used to reflect the identity of a web site that shows up in bookmarks and other places in a web browser.
According to Google, the change was “rigorous and interesting” and “much harder than we thought”. The company wanted a better icon that could be scaled to a variety of platforms like mobile phones and devices and came up with over 300 permutations in doing so. Google has stated that this is a work in progress and may not be their final favicon. For anyone creative, Google is allowing users to submit favicon ideas to be considered.
