LiveScribe Pulse: the pen makes a comeback against the keyboard

Pen

The LiveScribe Pulse

For the vast majority of the population, a typical pen and pad of paper is more than enough to get them through a long meeting. But today’s pen is so 20th century. Once the primary tool of choice, the pen has been quickly replaced by the keyboard. The LiveScribe Pulse offers a digital pen and an audio recorder in one compact package. The audio device records as you write, and when you tap a place on the notes, will go back and play the recording when the notes were taken.

The pen would work well for students, individuals that frequent the meeting room, and journalists, as it would combine audio with writing for a more accurate report. While tablet PC’s can perform similar functions, they are often costly, and don’t offer the audio option. The biggest limitation of the pen is that it requires a special type of paper to work; small dots on the page are picked up by a small camera in the pen. The product comes with a 100-sheet college-ruled notebook; a four-pack can be yours for $19.99.

A Pulse with 1 gigabyte of memory costs $149 direct from LiveScribe’s Web site, and the 2 gigabyte model costs $199.
