T-Mobile offers family option for unlimited plan

Since the launch of the unlimited plans by the nationwide carriers, the common frustration has centered around the inability to add lines at a reasonable cost.  Most of the carriers charge the $99.99 per line, regardless of the number of lines added.

Today, T-Mobile announced the option to add secondary lines to an unlimited plan for $49.99 per line.  While the cost certainly isn’t cheap, it offers another option for those families with hefty overage bills.  The move represents a shift in cellular phone usage in 2008, and is echoed by Robert Dotson, President and CEO of T-Mobile.  “Mobile phones are a lifeline for busy families today, and T-Mobile wants to be right alongside them whether at home or on-the-go to help them stay connected.”

When properly analyzed, the cost doesn’t appear to be too lofty.  Considering that unlimited family text messaging can be as high as $20-$30 on a family plan (which comes included in each $49.99 line), the combination of unlimited text/picture/video and unlimited minutes deserves a look.
