Microsoft Windows XP’s lifeline extended
Computer giant Microsoft has extended its deadline for its XP operating system. The hitch is that it is only extended for low-cost portables and desktops. Microsoft had already extended its intended deadline until June but now the company is stating that low-cost PC makers can integrate XP into their systems until 2010.
Microsoft said the extension applies to “nettops,” a term coined by Intel to refer to low-cost desktops that have limited system configurations and are intended for simple tasks like surfing the Internet and sending email. An example of which being the new Acer Aspire one. Microsoft’s follow-up OS, Vista, has been labeled as resource hungry and many computer users prefer the older XP OS to the newer Vista - especially for less powerful machines.
