Apple wants to allow over-the-air downloads for new iPhone
It looks as if the Samsung Instinct advertisements are beginning to irritate Apple. According to sources, the company is in talks with several major music labels to offer over-the-air downloads for the upcoming 3G iPhone. Although the current iPhone can connect to iTunes to download music, the device must be connected via Wi-Fi. With the rollout of 3G in the phone, it would make it more technically feasible to allow for OTA downloads. The deal doesn’t come without strings, however - major music labels are scoffing at accepting the typical 70 cents that Apple pays for each song. Additionally, the company seeks to introduce ‘answer tones,’ which allow callers to hear a song instead of a ring.
It is widely believed that Apple will release the 3G iPhone in June at the WWDC.
