OLPC and Microsoft begin Windows XP distribution
After all the rumors, OLPC and Microsoft have finally begun distribution of Windows XP in their laptops. The launch will initially cover 5-6 countries, with a full-scale distribution in August or September. Unlike the initial reports, however, the XO will not be able to dual-boot between Windows XP and Linux. In order to get Windows XP to work on the laptop, Microsoft had to develop a way to get the OS on an SD card, and code drivers for the touchpad and the E-Book technology.
No word on which country will receive the Windows XP equipped computers first.
