With cable company DVRs being offered at inexpensive prices, sometimes as low as $10 a month, TiVo has decided keep its lifetime subscription service around and extended the offering until July 2 or possibly longer.

Initially the promo was to end in February but with all the DVR competition around it seems the company has decided to possibly offer the lifetime sub indefinitely reveals a source. The lifetime plan costs $400, plus the additional cost of the TiVo box. Quite expensive when you start adding things up. Adding to the matter, the TiVo lifetime subscription is only good for the box it is tied to.

TiVo killed off its lifetime service plan in 2006, although it’s been revived a few times during the past year.
