‘Microhoo!’ talks end; companies go separate ways

Microsoft Yahoo

After offering $5 billion in addition to the initial $44.6 billion buyout offer, the talks between Microsoft and Yahoo! have officially come to a close.  In a letter from Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to Yahoo!’s Jerry Yang, Ballmer expressed disappointment in the lack of a deal, additionally stating that they no longer expressed interest in a hostile takeover, as Yahoo would most likely “take steps that would make [it] undesirable as an acquisition.”

Yahoo! didn’t seem to be impacted, instead releasing a response to the letter.  So, as of now, it looks like Microhoo! won’t materialize after all.
