Deutsche Telekom to purchase Sprint?

Sprint LogoRumors of this nature have surfaced in the past, but they’ve become a bit more realistic after Sprint’s horrible week.  On Friday, the struggling 3rd largest US telecommunications company was ordered by the FCC to vacate certain channels, and had their credit rating cut to ‘junk’ by Standard and Poors.

Chalk it up in the ‘who knows’ section for now, however leading German magazine Der Spiegel claims that Deutsche Telekom (owners of T-Mobile USA) has its eye on the troubled carrier.  According to Spiegel, the current share price drop, combined with the value of the Euro, combine for a strong bargain.  According to research, Sprint is valued at less than $1,000 per customer.  The company has 54 million wireless subscribers and generates $40 billion in sales.
