New monitor uses no power in standby mode
PhysOrg.com has posted a story about a new Fujitsu Siemens monitor that uses a claimed 0 watts of power when in standby mode. This new monitor uses a special relay switch that shuts down the monitor completely when the signal from the PC is lost. This sounds like a kinda obvious thing to do to us, but seemingly nobody has thought to do this in the past. But before you start thinking up plans for the ton of money you are going to save thanks to this new monitor, Fujitsu Siemens says that users can expect to save “several” euros per year by using the one of the new monitors. Even with the exchange rate, folks, that’s still only going to be maybe $5 per year.
But still, any energy saved is better than energy wasted.
The company says that the first monitors using the new standby mode technology will become available this summer and will go for the same cost as regular, less green monitors.
