Rocket man reaches 186mph over Swiss Alps with jet-powered wings

Rocket Man

Rocket Man

Is it a bird, is it a plane… Former fighter pilot Yves Rossy strapped on a pair of self-made jet powered wings in the Swiss Alps recently and was able to reach speeds of 186mph from above.

After climbing aboard an airplane that dropped him from 7,500 feet, Rossy did a bit of a free fall before kicking in the the kerosene fueled wings.  The 8 foot self-made wings allowed Rossy to dive, turn and soar high above the Swiss crowd.  The pilot even rose to 2,600 feet before descending.

“It’s like a second skin,” he later told reporters. “If I turn to the left, I fly left. If I nudge to the right, I go right.”

To impress the girls, he performed one last manuever - a 360 degree roll that he had never tried before.  Next on Rossy’s list: to cross the English Channel with the jet-powered wings.

Garmin intros budget nuvi 255T, 265T, and 275T navigation systems

Garmin nuvi 265T

Garmin nuvi 265T

Garmin has unleashed a herd of satnav systems this morning.  The new additions will go to Garmin’s nuvi line and includes the new 255T, 265T, and 275T.

“Many customers want a simple-to-use, low-cost personal navigator, but find themselves in need of premium add-ons along the way,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “These devices add two of the most popular premium features – traffic alerts and hands-free calling – to an affordable, yet powerful navigator.”

The 2×5 nuvi series now offers Bluetooth wireless connectivity for handsfree calling and traffic alerts. Using NAVTEQ Traffic, drivers can steer clear of jammed up roads and not pay any extra fees as the service is free with purchase.  Also on-board is Bluetooth connectivity so drivers can chat and drive at the same time.

The new 2-series nuvis offer either 4.3 or 3.5-inch display screens and will now announce street names when driving - no more “turn right in 500 feet” instead you will now be greeted with “turn right on Elm Street”.

No word on pricing and availability yet.
